Two hundred! That’s how many customers showed up to help this bookstore move! I can’t even get one friend to help me come move a sofa and they get 200 customers to move all of their books to the new store.
But that’s the kind of connection we’re all going to need with our customers if we want to get through whatever is coming after the pandemic. With that kind of connection, we will get the support, we will be able to reach out, we will be able to stay in business.
Build the emotional bank account
And how do you build that connection? You build it by building the emotional bank account. And one of the best ways to do that is to provide content that enriches their lives. That content can be informing them, it could be educating them it could be entertaining them, it could be solving a problem, it could be creating a connection.
I know what you’re thinking: I’m in my shop and I’m busier than ever, what with Social selling and curbside pick-up, and, and… Things have gotten a little crazy and I get that. We often feel overwhelmed. And we feel that we don’t have the time to create that connection and to write that newsletter or do that Facebook post.
A system for creating content
Today I’m going to show you a system that allows you to create more content with less time and create a better connection to your customer.
The system works by creating one key piece of content that you then slice and dice in different ways. That can be a written piece if you’re a really good writer, but it’s harder and longer to write. What is easier is shooting a video. Because shooting a video is just you talking, right? You’re a retailer, you’re a really good talker. Shooting a video is easier and faster.
Video is the way to go
I know what you’re thinking: “I’m a little nervous about shooting a video. It’s intimidating.” I get it, but things have gotten easier. First off, people are a lot more accepting of things that are a little rough and ready. What people are looking for now, more than ever, more than anything, is authenticity. So be yourself, be a little rough, they will love it.
The other thing is you’re worried about the tech. But the best technology for shooting a video is sitting in your pocket. It’s your phone.
What should you talk about? It’s a common concern. Remember that you’re the expert. You know the trends in your industry. You know the history of your industry. You know the solutions that some of your products solve. Share that information. People want to hear it from you.
You can always engage your staff. They have a lot of downtime, this keeps them engaged, they get a bit more involved in your business, and they’re going to learn new skills.
So start by shooting a video, five, six, eight minutes, it doesn’t matter. Just keep talking. Then you’re going to download a very simple program to work on it. Most options are not very expensive. I love Filmora but there are many others. You’re going to clean it up a little bit. Maybe you stumbled at the beginning. Maybe the end was a little rough. It’s not a big deal. Just clean it up.
Now slice and dice it
You’re then going to take the audio from that video and send it to a transcription service. You just load that up online. It can cost pennies, it can cost dollars, it’s not very expensive. It doesn’t take very long.
After you’ve done that, you have a video, and you essentially have an article. You’re going to take that video, and again, using something like Filmora, you’re going to add some titles to it so that it looks really good. It’s easy to do.
Build your SEO
Then you load the video you created onto YouTube. Why YouTube? Well, YouTube is the number two search engine in the world. If you want to get found and, you do want to get found, then you load it up to YouTube.
You’re going to take the transcript, add some photos., Again, it’s easy to do, and you’re going to put it on your website as a blog post. Why do this? Because it’s going to increase search engine optimization. By doing this you rise up in search, and that is really critical because you want your website to be found.
Now what you’re going to do is take that video, and again, using Filmora, you’re going to chop it up, add some more titles, and all of a sudden, that six-minute video becomes a whole bunch of pieces of content.
Let’s say you’re talking about trends, well, you have trend number one, trend number two. Maybe there are two parts to trend number two, that’s two videos. You chop it up based on what each piece of social media needs. The cheat sheet will show what the optimum lengths.
You’re going to take that article and cut and paste it and chop it up into smaller articles as well. It’s so easy to edit and to cut and paste, so much easier than writing. And all of a sudden, that article becomes a whole bunch of different pieces of content. The best lengths are listed in the cheat sheet for you.
Use your content everywhere
You’re going to take all the videos and start loading them up onto your social media. Some will go on Facebook, Instagram as well but they’re going to be shorter. Don’t forget to put it on Google My Business. This is really, really critical. Posting here will help you rise up in local search.
The article then becomes a newsletter that you’re going to send out to your customers. Customers still want to be contacted via a newsletter. They prefer that to any social media. Send that newsletter. Put it on Google My Business. Put it on Facebook. Then you can put a little Pull quote over an image and it becomes an Instagram post.
Now see what you’ve done, we’ve taken five, six, eight minutes of a video and created all of this content both text and video.
And link back
But wait, there’s more. You’re going to take that newsletter post and link it back to your YouTube and blog post. So if people who are reading your newsletter want more information, they can go to your YouTube channel and see the whole video. They can go to your blog and read the whole story.
You’re going to do the same thing with your Facebook posts. People who want to learn more can go and learn more. Why is this important? First of all, they’re getting more content. And they’re getting more engaged.
Also, you’re building again. Of course, your Google My Business post is going to help build that SEO as well.
It’s quick and easy
So you’ve sat down, shot a quick little video and, all of a sudden, you get all this content, you get all this activity, you get all this engagement.
Hopefully, we’ve had some fun creating that video. You’ve engaged our staff. Your staff are having fun. They’re more engaged in the business. You have saved a ton of time. And you have boosted your SEO.
Most importantly, because you have created this awesome content, you have engaged your customers.
I urge you to try this system. Do it once see how it works. You’ll be amazed at how good it feels to know that for the next week or two, you’ve got awesome content and you don’t have to worry about it.
Now, if there’s a new arrival or something you can post about that, but you don’t have to. With this system, your social media is taken care of, and you’ve engaged your customers.
There’s there’s a link down below to the cheat sheet. If you have any questions, by all means, use the email on the cheat sheet and I’d be happy to answer them.
